Depression

We all experience sadness and grief from time to time. These are normal emotions to let us know when things aren’t quite right or when we’ve had a loss that needs to be processed. However, there are times in which feelings of malaise or sadness can linger and stay constant or be more severe than expected. Sometimes feelings of depression can be severe enough to interfere with day to day activities or relationships. There are many reasons for this. We would start with a full assessment to determine the level of depression and other factors related to the feelings.

If it appears that there are specific medical conditions or medications that might be contributing to the depression, appropriate referrals will be made for a more integrative approach.

Treatment involves a multi-faceted approach. In some cases, medication may be beneficial but not always necessary. Exercise is important as well as evaluating whether life changes are needed. Often treatment will involve looking at patterns and ways of thinking that keep us stuck. There is no one single path to alleviating depression that works for everyone. We would work together to determine the best integrative approach for you.
